A reporter once asked mountaineer and clergyman George Mallory why he climbs mountains. He replied, "Because they are there." Few things excite me more than an adventure. The challenge of an uphill run is invigorating. When I climb, I'm completely focused, totally absorbed in the present moment. Spending time in nature fills me with joy and serenity. Unfortunately, outdoor culture isn't inviting for many people. Through my volunteer work and position as a board member of the University of Chicago climbing club, I am dedicated to making the outdoors accessible and welcoming for everybody.
